There are two ways people respond to challenges . Many complain, while a few look for the solutions. With persistence, the latter eventually find a path to success, through finding answers to the grandest questions posed by such challenges. .
Dr. Davis Musinguzi, having qualified as a medical doctor from Makerere University, sought to address the issue of Uganda’s appalling the doctor to patient ratio estimated at 1 Doctor for 24,725 people in 2013 and 1 nurse for every 11,000 people. The World Health Organization recommends 1 physician per 1,000 people. Uganda has 0.117 physicians per 1000 people. To add to this were Uganda’s , the rising costs of healthcare and the limited engagement of patients on their health outside the confines of the hospital. Dr. Davis founded The Medical Concierge Group (TMCG), and immediately started an entrepreneurial journey to provide much needed solutions to the challenges at hand.
The Medical Concierge Group has a simple operational model; to be the convenient and readily available way to access a qualified health personnel to provide health information and guidance on pressing health issues from the community at no cost through technology.
Since qualified medical doctors may not be always be physically available given the shortage countrywide and their limited working hours , and other reasons such as the emergence of fraudulent quack medical personnel, TMCG has to come in to bridge that gap. TMCG has efficiently bridged patient access to qualified medical professionals directly through your mobile phone from the comfort of your home.
People with health issues can reach out to TMCG through phone calls, SMS and on the various social media and online messaging platforms like Whatsapp, Twitter and Facebook, which, according to an interview by voanews.com, is the commonest reach format. In a month, TMCG records an average of 50,000 online interactions, which is proof of how valued the platform has become.

Most of the questions posed are in line with myths about health and sexuality. They come mainly from young people who are at a stage of understanding their sexuality, or have challenges with other reproductive health related issues. As such, most questions pertain to condom use and access, HIV testing, teenage pregnancy and abortion, contraceptive use among others.
TMCG also maintains a database of health specialists and health centres, making them a fully furnished go to call centre for health information; should you reach out to them and they lack the information you need, they know just who and where to refer you, no matter which part of the country you are in.
TMCG currently generates its revenue through a Business-to-Business model providing custom health technology solutions to projects on clinical research, development, employer’s medical schemes and health insurance providers.
By bringing health services within a call or text of the public, Dr. Davis Musinguzi and the team at TMCG are directly improving health in place where it would otherwise be cumbersome, expensive and ineffective. The group hopes to expand to reach all corners of Africa , which, given the importance they have had, will be a much appreciated venture.
